The reactor, which is used in the oil refining process, was destined for the BP oil refinery in Carson, Calif., according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
The Dutch ship, 'Jumbo Challenger,' sustained damage to its hull and crane, and will require repairs prior to departing Los Angeles, the Coast Guard said. No injuries were reported.
The Coast Guard is still investigating the incident.
