Tibbett Logistics to upgrade Bucharest terminal

The three-phase investment comes after the terminal experienced a 36 percent rise in volumes in 2016, and is expected to further increase cargo volumes by an additional 30 percent by the end of this year.    Romania-based transport and contract logistics company Tibbett Logistics will be enhancing the open-access Bucharest International Rail Freight Terminal (BIRFT) this summer.
   A three-phase enhancement of the terminal platform will add 10,000 square meters of storage to the facility, increasing BIRFT’s handling capacity.
   The terminal experienced a 36 percent increase in freight volumes last year and Tibbett Logistics estimates an additional 30 percent increase by the end of this year. A large portion of that increase has come from maritime container imports through the Port of Constanta on Romania’s Black Sea Coast. Within these containers is usually general merchandise for the retail sector plus raw materials for automotive Tier 1-3 companies for regional and global car and truck manufacturers.
   The volumes increase has also allowed Tibbett Logistics to increase block train frequency to five times a week, starting last year.
   As a member of The Keswick Enterprises Group, Tibbett Logistics investments in BIRFT will also include acquiring a third Kalmar/Cargotec mobile container handler as well as satellite tracking for all mobile handling equipment in the terminal.
