Flights to and from Kuala Lumpur will connect the city to IAG Cargo’s global network of over 350 destinations, many of them with next-day connections. The service will be operated with a Boeing 777-200ER model aircraft with up to 15 tons of capacity in each direction.
IAG Cargo said the new service is “ideally suited for the transport of goods including electronics, garments, perishables and valuables.”
According to the airfreight carrier, the new flights are in response to strong economic growth and increasing trade in Malaysia.
“In 2014, the Malaysian economy grew at its fastest pace in four years and is expected to expand an additional 4.7 percent this year, increasing to around 5 percent in 2016. When it comes to trade, exports are forecast to grow 6.8 percent and imports 6.9 percent in 2016, providing a significant opportunity for air cargo carriers,” IAG said in a statement.
“As one of the world’s busiest freight destinations, Kuala Lumpur is crying out for cargo carriers that can support a wide range of cargo flows,” added John Cheetham, regional commercial manager for Asia Pacific and India at IAG Cargo. “IAG Cargo delivers against these requirements by providing businesses with access to one of the world’s largest cargo networks and a wide range of high-quality premium products. We therefore look forward to playing a role in helping enable Malaysia’s future success.”
