G8 vows to fight intellectual property theft The Group of    Eight industrialized nations declared at its Gleneagles, Scotland summit that member nations will increase efforts to combat global trade in pirated and counterfeit intellectual property.
   In a statement released July 8, the G8 said it would convene a meeting of experts this fall to develop a plan for improving national antipiracy and counterfeiting capabilities. The G8 also noted its concerns about the growing links between intellectual property theft and organized crime.
   The G8 said intellectual property agreements contribute to sustainable growth for all countries. It noted member nations are working actively through the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the World Trade Organization (WTO), World Customs Organization (WCO), Interpol and other organizations to combat intellectual property theft among member nations and with other countries.
   'We are deepening these efforts at home and abroad, with the aim of reducing substantially global trade in pirated and counterfeit goods, and efficiently combating the transnational networks that support it,' a statement from the G8 summit said.
