China Shipping deploys first 8,100-TEU giant in Pacific

China Shipping deploys first 8,100-TEU giant in Pacific    China Shipping Container Lines will introduce its first 8,100-TEU mega-containership, the “CSCL Asia,” in one of its transpacific services July 9.
   The ship, the largest in the carrier’s fleet, will sail from Shanghai July 9 and make its first call at Long Beach July 24 as part of its first eastbound transpacific sailing. The “CSCL Asia” will operate in the “AAS1” Asia/U.S. West Coast loop of China Shipping Container Lines.
   Built at the Korean shipyard Samsung, the “CSCL Asia” has a nominal capacity of 8,094 TEUs and a deadweight of 99,500 tons. It has a length of 334 meters, a beam of 42.8 meters, and can carry 700 reefer containers. The Hong Kong-flag vessel has a speed of 25.2 knots.
   The ship will call at the TTI terminal in Long Beach and at the SSA Marine terminal in Oakland. Its rotation will be Shanghai, Xiamen, Yantian, Hong Kong, Long Beach Oakland and back to Shanghai.
   It is expected that the Shanghai-based carrier will introduce additional 8,100-TEU mega-containerships in its transpacific services.
