Panama Canal Authority begins construction bids review The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) last Friday started reviewing bids for the first construction project under the canal’s $5 billion expansion program.
   The ACP received 10 bids to perform the dry excavation of the new Pacific Locks access channel and said a winner will be determined in the coming weeks.
   On May 7, the authority released its tender for the excavation — the first of five dry excavation projects that will link the new post-Panamax locks on the Pacific end of the canal with the existing Gaillard Cut (the narrowest stretch in the Panama Canal).
   The project is the first construction-related expansion tender and represents about 16 percent of the total excavation for the new Pacific Locks access channel, the ACP said.
