Maersk taps BigOceanData for vessel tracking

The Danish ocean carrier signed a two-year contract, effective Aug. 1, 2016, to receive ship tracking services on its fleet of around 630 owned and chartered vessels, London-based technology provider BigOceanData said in a statement.    Maersk Line has signed a two-year contract with BigOceanData for vessel tracking services, the London-based technology provider said in a statement.
   Under the new agreement, the Danish ocean carrier will receive ship tracking services on its fleet of around 630 owned and chartered vessels.
   BigOceanData said the initial system, available on both desktop and mobile applications, went live Aug. 1, 2016 and is already in use at Maersk Line’s operation centers around the world.
   The system utilizes fused satellite and terrestrial data feeds to deliver consistent, reliable position reports for vessels, which Maersk will then use to optimize fleet performance.
   In addition, BigOceanData will provide a wide range of environmental, navigation and security data that can then be integrated with clients’ in-house systems in order to reduce costs and increase efficiencies, the company said.
   “We were impressed by the BigOceanData system during the evaluation process,” Maersk Line Head of GVPC Stephan Martinussen said of the new contract. “It delivers a wide range of functionality, and at the same time, offers an interface that will integrate with our own systems with minimal disruption and maximum effectiveness. We also welcome its ability to combine multiple inputs within a single system, which improves overall end-user experience.”
