FedEx opens two West Coast gateway facilities

FedEx opens two West Coast gateway facilities FedEx Corp. said Wednesday it has opened two new West Coast distribution gateways in support of the firm's Ocean-Ground Distribution system between Asia and the United States.
   The Memphis-based firm's OGD system combines ocean freight forwarding and customs brokerage services of subsidiary FedEx Trade Networks Inc., and the domestic transportation and delivery services of FedEx Express, FedEx Freight, FedEx Ground, and FedEx National LTL.
   The new facilities are located in Seattle, serving the Seattle-Tacoma ports; and Oakland, Calif., serving the Oakland-San Francisco ports.
   “By adding the ports of Seattle-Tacoma and Oakland-San Francisco as Ocean-Ground Distribution gateways, FedEx Trade Networks is providing importers with flexibility to choose from numerous sailing schedules from Asia to the West Coast,” said Bill Goodgion, FedEx Trade Networks managing director of North American transportation and distribution services.
   FedEx said the two facilities would also provide options to customers wishing to ship through the Southern California ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.
   “While both (Southern California) ports continue to make strides in managing increased consumer demand, importers increasingly have expressed their desire to explore alternatives,” Goodgion said.
