Samskip appoints Central America representative

Samskip appoints Central America representative Samskip Reefer Logistics has appointed Container Transport Solutions as its representative in Central America, with the focus initially on Panama and Costa Rica.
   Peder Winther, Samskip Reefer Logistics' chief executive officer, said the company will start by handling exports of fruit from Panama, but expects to develop other markets as well.
   'While we will start with fruit exports from Panama to Rotterdam, including melons and pineapples, we expect to cover additional European destinations in due course,” he said.
   “Also Container Transport Solutions believes there are possibilities for the export of fish products from Panama and the import of European products including cheese. Together, we are also looking at other fruit-producing countries in Central America as additional sources of business,” he added.
   Container Transport Solutions is headed by Poul Bastrup, a Dane who has lived in Panama for 30 years. Prior to establishing his own company in 2006, Bastrup opened and ran P&O Nedlloyd’s Panamanian office since 1999.
   Samskip is already operational in Latin America, having established offices in Brazil earlier this year.
