Port of Savannah receives two super post-Panamax cranes

Port of Savannah receives two super post-Panamax cranes    The port of Savannah Saturday received two super post-Panamax ship-to-shore container cranes at its Ocean Terminal. The cranes completed a 47-day long journey on board the vessel “Dock Express 10”, from the port of Tianjin, China.
   The cranes, ordered 22 months ago from KCI Konescranes at a cost of $6.3 million each, represent the largest crane size manufactured. They have a length of 465 feet, stand 374 feet tall with boom raised, weigh 1,369 tons with a span capacity of 22 containers across and six containers high on deck.
   The Georgia Ports Authority said the cranes are expected to be the first cargo unloaded at the port’s Container berth 8 (CB8). CB8 is a project that when complete early in 2006, will give the port of Savannah’s a total of 9,800 feet of berthing accommodations and increase capacity by 20 percent.
