U.S. transportation employment rises in October

The nation’s transportation and logistics sector added 8,400 jobs in October 2017, according to recent preliminary data from the U.S. Department of Labor.    United States transportation and logistics companies added another 8,400 jobs for the month in October 2017, according to the latest preliminary data from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).   
   Job gains in the sector during October were led by the courier, warehousing and air transportation segments, which grew employment by 5,700, 3,100 and 3,500 jobs, respectively, from the previous month. Rail also saw a slight increase of 300 jobs added in October.   
   Those increases were offset slightly by a 2,800-job decline in the transit and ground passenger transportation sector and a 1,800-job decline in the water transportation sector. Minor drops occurred in pipeline and truck transportation, 100 jobs each.   
   Overall, the U.S. added 261,000 jobs in October, mostly offsetting a slight decline in September that largely reflected the impact of Hurricanes Irma and Harvey, BLS said.
