One of the largest ships in the carrier’s fleet, the “CSCL Asia” will move out of the Asia/U.S. West Coast “AAS1” service to join the carrier’s Asia/Europe “AEX1” loop in Shanghai Sept. 17. China Shipping’s second 8,500-TEU vessel, the “CSCL Europe,” already operates in the Asia/Europe “AEX1” service.
A spokesman for China Shipping would not comment on whether it is withdrawing the large ship from the transpacific because of port congestion on the U.S. West Coast.
The Chinese carrier will take delivery of another three 8,500-TEU vessels soon, but said their trade deployment has not been decided.
