Parrot, TITAN Salvage founder, dead at 65

Parrot, TITAN Salvage founder, dead at 65    David Gray Parrot, 65, founder and former chief of TITAN Salvage, died Wednesday in Maine.
Founded in 1980, TITAN was acquired by Crowley Maritime in 2005.
Crowley said the company began as a one-tug towing firm and first got into salvage work in 1982 when it was hired as a subcontractor to assist a Dutch firm on a salvage/wreck removal job in the Caribbean. When the job was no longer economically feasible for the Dutch firm, TITAN successfully took over the operation. It was the first of a long series of salvage and wreck removal jobs, which continues to this day. During the 1980s the company acquired more tugs, barges and cranes, enabling it to build a regional salvage and wreck removal business in the Caribbean.
Parrot “was a remarkable man who founded and helped build TITAN into one of the premier marine salvage and wreck removal companies in the world today. He will be missed by many for his vision, determination and countless contributions, but most of all, for his friendship,” said Tom Crowley Jr., Crowley Maritime’s chief executive officer.
Parrot is survived by his wife, Penny, and sons, Hunter and Gage.
