APMT Lazaro Cardenas opens for business

The Mexican terminal received its first official port call yesterday from the 9,600-TEU Maersk Salalah.    APM Terminals (APMT) Lazaro Cardenas is officially open for business, and received its first vessel call Monday with the arrival of the 9,600-TEU Maersk Salalah, the terminal operator said Monday.
   The Maersk Salalah serves on Maersk Line’s transpacific AC2 loop.
   Dubbed the Lázaro Cárdenas Terminal 2 (TEC2), the semi-automated terminal occupies an area of 49 hectares, has a quay length of 750 meters and a depth of 16.5 meters.
   The terminal is connected to five rail tracks with gate access for land-side customers.
   The final phase of the terminal build-out, slated for 2027 at the earliest, will deepen the terminal to 18 meters, having a total occupied area of 102 hectares and providing access to 10 rail tracks.
   The overall investment cost of the terminal is estimated at $900 million.
