First Chilean fruit ship of season calls Wilmington, Del. The Port of Wilmington, Delaware said this year’s first shipment of Chilean winter fruit arrived Wednesday onboard Discovery Bay, a specialized reefer ship operated by Pacific Seaways.
   Wilmington is a leading port for refrigerated cargo and said it is the No. 1 port on the Delaware for Chilean fruit imports, handling 186,000 pallets of Chilean fruit last season.
   The port expects up to 35 ship calls from the Chilean ports of Valparaiso, Coquimbo and Caldera. Fruit imports from Chile include table grapes, plums, nectarines, apricots, peaches, cherries, kiwi, apples and pears.
   Last October, Delaware Gov. Ruth Ann Minner led a trade mission to Chile that underscored Wilmington’s commitment to the Chilean fruit trade.
