FEC teams with Wi-Tronix for fleet monitoring The Florida East Coast Railway and Wi-Tronix LLC have completed the deployment of Wi-Tronix's wireless remote monitoring products for monitoring of the entire FEC locomotive fleet, the railroad said Thursday.
   Wi-Tracker uses global positioning satellite (GPS) technology, commercial cellular technology, and an ultra-sonic fuel sensor to provide to track trains, record speed and monitor fuel levels. The technology also allows FEC to wirelessly download locomotive event recorders, or 'Black Boxes,' to check data on trains both periodically and on demand.
   'Wi-Tronix gives FEC the ability to integrate technologies that improve the operational efficiency and service reliability of our fleet. After two years of investigating options, we determined that the Wi-Tronix solution is the most economical and versatile while providing a platform for future development,' said Gary Griffiths, vice president and chief mechanical officer of FEC.
