RoadOne merges with North Carolina trucking company

Drayage provider RoadOne IntermodaLogistics has effectively acquired intermodal trucking operator Robin Hood Container Express, it’s third such acquisition in the past 18 months, the company said in a statement.    Drayage provider RoadOne IntermodaLogistics has effectively acquired Robin Hood Container Express, an intermodal trucking operator with a footprint across the U.S. Southeast, including in Savannah, Ga.; Charleston, S.C.; and Wilmington, N.C.
RoadOne said the move, it’s third such acquisition in the past 18 months, is the latest in the company’s “ongoing effort to increase its geographical density and ensure it can operate efficiently under the hours of service rules through a combination of acquisitions and organic growth.”
RoadOne CEO Ken Kellaway noted that although the companies are calling the transaction a “merger,” RoadOne will be the dominant corporate entity, absorbing the staff and operations of Robin Hood.
The firm will add Robin Hood’s 70 drivers in Savannah, Charleston and Wilmington to its existing network of over 1,000 drivers in 40 locations across the country.
In addition to acquiring Itasca, Ill.-based carrier Global Logistics (UGL) in August 2017 and Milford, Conn.-based drayage operator C&V Trucking in September 2016, Kellaway said the firm is negotiating two other acquisitions that could be completed within 90 days, and he has others “in his sights.”
“That’s one of the areas we are aggressively looking to expand, because that is the fastest growing market in the country right now,” said Kellaway. “The ships are getting bigger, the terminals are getting bigger. But the market isn’t necessarily adding more drivers.”
