DGX validated for C-TPAT participation

DGX validated for C-TPAT participation Dependable Hawaiian Express/DGX said Tuesday it is the latest participant in the U.S. Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program.
   U.S. Customs Border Protection has successfully validated the Rancho Dominguez-based logistic company's domestic and foreign operations for participation in the program.
   C-TPAT is a joint initiative between CBP, importers, terminal operators, carriers and others in the supply chain to make a self-assessment of their security in conjunction with government officials. This initiative adjusts security standards where necessary and communicates these new practices to ensure tighter security to other entities in the supply chain.
   DGX believes the participation in the program will result in a more secure supply chain for its customers and a reduction in shippers’ time-to-market transfer of cargo from point of origin loading to final destination.
   Additional benefits, according to DGX, are reductions in CBP targeting and inspection of goods from shippers participating in the program and who utilize DGX for their ocean carrier portion of shipments. In the event of a random CBP inspection, C-TPAT members will move to the head of the line for inspection scheduling, DGX said.    Additionally, if there were an emergency affecting commerce or trade infrastructure because of a terrorist event or attack, C-TPAT members would be given first preference in restarting trade operations.
   “Safety and security of customers’ cargo are our top priorities,” said Brad Dechter, president of DHX-DGX. “By committing DGX to this vital program, we are reasserting leadership in our industry.”
   Although there are more than 7,000 individual members in the C-TPAT program, including importers, terminal operators, customs brokers and freight forwarders, sea/air/rail/truck and commercial carriers, and foreign manufacturers, only about 4,500 have completed validations.
