Old Dominion doubles size of Des Moines operation

   Old Dominion Freight Line said Monday it has relocated its Des Moines Service Center to a facility more than twice the size of its previous service center.
   The new center has 123 doors on 32 acres.
   “Des Moines is an important regional hub for Old Dominion due to its central geographic location,” the less-than-truckload carrier said in a statement. “The facility moves a large volume of freight traveling along east-west Interstate 80 and north-south Interstate 35 – both of which intersect in Des Moines.”
   The new center’s service area spans most of central Iowa, including Des Moines, Alkeny, Urbandale, Ames, Boone, Fort Dodge, Marshalltown, Newton, Pella, Oskaloosa, Fairfield and Creston.
   The relocation is part of a $95 million investment Old Dominion has committed to real estate purchases and expansion projects in 2013. – Eric Johnson
