Trimble buys GEOTrac for oil and gas logistics

   Trimble, a provider of advanced positioning solutions, has acquired privately-held GEOTrac Systems, a provider of wireless fleet management and safety services for the oil and gas industry.
   GEOTrac will be added to Trimble’s PeopleNet offering, extending its reach into the oil and gas sector. PeopleNet builds cloud and integrated computing and mobile communications and fleet management systems for North America’s trucking industry.
   GEOTrac has been providing mapping, Web-based software, and heavy-duty hardware for the oil and gas sector since 2003. The company’s focus has been around remote worker safety, location information, and fleet optimization. Its system allows customers to see daily GPS logs of vehicles on the system as well as up-to-date map information around current activity.
   The GEOTrac business will be reported as part of Trimble’s Mobile Solutions segment.
