CKYH Alliance starting China/Pacific Southwest loop

Report: U.S. Jones Act fleet æstrong and vibrantÆ    The all-Asian carrier CKYH Alliance of COSCO, 'K' Line, Hanjin Shipping and Yang Ming will later this month start a North China/Pacific Southwest service and at the same time add larger ships to an existing Asia/Pacific Northwest loop.
   The new service, PSW5, will use five 1,800-TEU ships operated by Yang Ming on a rotation of Lianyungang, Qingdao, Xiangang, Busan, Oakland, Los Angeles and back to Lianyungang.
   The new service will shorten the alliance's transit time from Xiangang to Oakland by four days from 17 days to 13 days, Hanjin said.
   The ships to be used on the PSW5 will be transferred from the PN3 service, which will be upgraded with five 3,500-TEU vessels, again operated by Yang Ming. The PN3 will also add calls at Hong Kong, Busan and Vancouver but drop Keelung. The full port rotation will be Hong Kong, Yantian, Kaohsiung, Busan, Tacoma, Vancouver, Portland, Busan and Hong Kong.
