Volvo scores 100% compliance in truck recall

Volvo Trucks North America has repaired all of its heavy-duty trucks that were under recall for a steering problem.    In eight short months, Volvo Trucks North America has successfully identified and repaired all of the nearly 16,000 Class 8 tractors under voluntary recall for a serious steering defect, the Department of Transportation announced Monday.
In March, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) ordered all the recalled Volvo trucks off the road until repairs had been completed.
NHTSA, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and Volvo used social media, press notifications, appearances on satellite radio programs and director notifications to alert trucking companies, drivers, and federal and state roadside inspectors of the urgent recall notification.
The DOT said 100-percent recall completions are historically rare.
“We applaud Volvo Trucks’ commitment to addressing every one of these trucks,” NHTSA Administrator Mark Rosekind said in a statement. “Not only has every truck been found, they were repaired or taken out of service before there was any serious crash tied to this dangerous defect. This is exactly what proactive safety is all about.”
The recall also covers more than 2,600 tractors in Canada.
