Sandberg takes wheel at NIT League

Sandberg takes wheel at NIT League Annette Sandberg, a former administrator for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration from 2003 to 2006, will head the National Industrial Transportation League on an interim basis, the trade association informed members in its weekly newsletter last Friday.
   She takes over the NIT League presidency after John Ficker resigned last month to become a supply chain executive at First Industrial Realty Trust.
   A search committee is looking for a permanent replacement.
   Before coming to Washington, Sandberg was chief of the Washington State Patrol from 1995 to 2001. She has operated her own firm, TranSafe Consulting, since leaving office in early 2006. The consulting firm helps shippers, carriers and logistics companies adapt to changing transportation safety and security regulations.   
   A big issue for the shipping community is the truck driver hours of service regulations that were recently reissued and will likely be litigated again by opponents. Sandberg led the agency when it drafted the driver work rules that took effect in 2004 and were subsequently challenged by some public safety advocates and labor unions. ' Eric Kulisch
