UPS TO BOOST “ROUND-THE-WORLD” FLIGHTS
Atlanta-based integrated carrier United Parcel Service said Tuesday it has added two weekly “around the world’ flights to enhance service between the United States and Europe, Asia and the Mideast. The two additional weekly frequencies use Boeing 767 freighters departing from UPS's air hub in Louisville, Ky. for Cologne; Sharjah, UAE; Bombay and Singapore before arriving at UPS's Asia Pacific hub in Taipei. The aircraft flies a reverse schedule from Asia to Europe before repeating the route to Asia, then returning to the United States via Anchorage.
The two additional flights add to UPS's three existing round-the-world flights, the first of which started in 1998.
“Our recent growth in international export volume is a testament to the increasing needs of our customers,” said Tom Weidemeyer, senior vice president, transportation operations and president of UPS Airlines. “These additional frequencies give us the flexibility and airlift to directly respond to these demands and help our customers succeed in the new global marketplace.”
UPS's third-quarter international export volume increased 23 percent while import volumes rose 11.4 percent, for a total international volume increase of about 15 percent.
