FMCSA seeks comments on chassis records    The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration published a notice in the Federal Register this week asking for comments on modifying a requirement for Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) for intermodal equipment.
   The proposed modification would mean drivers would not have to submit reports and intermodal equipment providers would not have to retain driver-vehicle inspection reports when the driver has neither found nor been made aware of any defects on the intermodal equipment, such as chassis.
   The proposal is in response to a joint petition for rulemaking from the Ocean Carrier Equipment Management Association and the Institute of International Container Lessors.
   Curtis Whalen, executive director of the American Trucking Associations Intermodal Motor Carriers Conference, said the notice was “expected and is generally supported by industry-DVIRs, for non-defective equipment is an unnecessary filing burden which does not produce info reflective of whether an equipment provider is complying with the systematic maintenance and repair requirements.”
