Labeled as drainage pipeline fittings, and hidden within the containers behind nearly 250 pairs of other shoes, the counterfeit Nikes were being shipped from China.
The appraised value of the fake shoes, which will be destroyed, was $521,000, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials. The value of the shoes, if real, would have been $2.6 million, or about $140 a pair.
