Halifax Terminal being sold to Macquarie    The operator of the South End Container Terminal at the Port of Halifax, is being acquired by New York-based, Macquarie Infrastructure Partners.
   The deal was announced by Halterm Income Fund, the parent company of Halterm Ltd., operator of the terminal.
   Last week there were press reports in Canada that Dubai Ports World was considering an investment in a Halifax terminal and speculation on a takeover target had centered on Halterm.
   Nova Scotia Sen. Wilfred Moore said he had visited Dubai as a member of the Canadian Parliament’s standing committee on defense and security and held two meetings with DP World executives, who expressed interest in investing in Halifax.
   “We welcome this global partner to the Port of Halifax. We are focused on growing the international container business to the benefit of our regional economy,” said Karen Oldfield, president and chief executive officer of the Halifax Port Authority.
   The South End Container Terminal is located at the mouth of Halifax Harbour and covers 72 acres. Terminal equipment includes two post-Panamax cranes, four ship gantry cranes and three deepwater berths, each 1,000 meters in length.
