Cargo delayed due to massive power outage at Atlanta airport

Domestic and intentional cargo moving through Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport has been delayed due to a facility-wide power outage on Sunday.    Air cargo moving through Atlanta is experiencing delay of up to three days due to a power outage at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Sunday.
   The power outage affected all concourses and terminal buildings at approximately 1 p.m. on Sunday and was restored roughly 11 hours later at midnight. The outage resulting in 54 flight diversions and more than 1300 cancellations.
   Delta Cargo announced on its website that it has embargoed all international cargo services until midnight tonight, while all domestic origin, destination and transfer cargo are stopped until midnight on Tuesday. However, other cargo operators have reported minimal delays, according to The Loadstar.
   Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed stated that the outage was due to a fire in a Georgia Power underground electrical facility, which damaged two substations that serve the airport, including the airport’s backup system.
