Scotland’s deepest container terminal expects business to double

The Greenock Ocean Terminal, Scotland’s deepest container terminal, has projected its container volumes will double between now and 2021 thanks to the new Liverpool2 terminal that opened late last year.    Scotland’s deepest container terminal, the Greenock Ocean Terminal, expects to double its business in the next five years due to the opening of the new Liverpool2 terminal late last year, according to Peel Ports.
The Greenock Ocean Terminal, which currently handles 100,000 TEUs per year, said that by 2021, it expects to handle 200,000 TEUs per year.

Peel Ports Clydeport Port Director Andrew Hemphill said, “The opening of Liverpool2 has transformed the playing field for us, bringing deep-sea connections much closer to Scotland and we are now in a unique position thanks to our Irish Sea hubs. Mega ocean containerships can now call directly into Liverpool, which acts as a feeder hub to us in Greenock, Ireland and Manchester, allowing closer import and export routes to market.”
The Greenock Ocean Terminal has been officially open since 1969 and currently occupies 50 acres.
A recent 1.6 million British pound (U.S. $2 million) investment improved global operations, but more investments are under consideration. One future plan includes extending the quayside by 150 meters to support larger vessels coming into Greenock.
According to ocean carrier schedule and capacity database BlueWater Reporting‘s Port Dashboard tool, four container services call Greenock, including one operated by CMA CGM-subsidiary MacAndrews, one operated by MSC, and two operated by X-Press Feeders.
