U.S. Customs delays enforcement of advance air cargo manifest rule

U.S. Customs delays enforcement of advance air cargo manifest rule    The U.S. Bureau of Customs and Border Protection announced a revised schedule for complying with the advanced electronic filing of manifests for inbound flights of air cargo.
   The original March 4 compliance date has been pushed back to later this year so the agency can modify its computer systems to handle extra data elements than used in the current voluntary system, train personnel, and certify airlines and forwarders who plan to use the system.
   Compliance with the requirement to pre-file manifests up to four hours before arrival will be staggered on a regional basis, based on the following schedule:
   Aug. 13: Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia.
   Oct. 13: Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas,    and Wisconsin.
   Dec. 13: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, Utah, Washington.
