Marseille Fos container terminal receives new cranes

The Eurofos terminal, which is located in the French Mediterranean port’s western harbor, acquired two 54-meter high cranes with a 72-meter outreach.    The Port of Marseille Fos’ Eurofos terminal acquired two 54-meter high cranes with a 72-meter outreach from the Spanish crane manufacturer Paceco Espana.
   The cranes, which are equipped to handle the largest vessels currently in service or under construction, will start to be erected in February and will be commissioned between next September and October, the port said. The new cranes complement an investment of over 100 million euros (U.S. $108.1 million) at the Eurfos terminal.
   Terminal operator Eurofos is owned by Portsynergy Projects, a joint venture between DP World and CMA CGM’s Terminal Link.
   The Eurofos terminal is one of the two deepsea Fos 2XL container terminals on the Port of Marseille Fos’ Western Harbor. The terminal has a quay length of 1,600 meters and a draft of 15-16 meters, according to the port’s website. 
   The other container terminal on the site, the Seayard Terminal, has a quay length of 830 meters and a draft of 15-16 meters.
   An additional container terminal, the Med Europe Terminal, is located at the Port of Marseille Fos’ Eastern Harbor in Marseille. The terminal has a berth length of 1,000 meters and a draft of 10-11.20 meters.
