LATAM cargo tonnage inches up in March

   LATAM Airlines Group, the amalgamation of LAN Airlines and TAM, saw cargo inch up in March, increasing by 0.4 percent, year over year, to 407 million tons.
   Capacity rose as well, ramping up by 3.5 percent. Cargo load factor dropped by 1.8 points to 60.1 percent.
   “The growth in cargo capacity is a result of an increased availability in the belly of passenger aircraft,” according to a company statement. “Despite a delay on certain seasonal demand, cargo traffic was driven by higher volumes in certain markets to and from South America.”
   For the month, passenger traffic rose 7.7 percent on a 4.2-percent capacity increase. More than half of this activity came in the form of international traffic. – Jon Ross
