BIMCO issues warning for Caribbean vessels

BIMCO issues warning for Caribbean vessels The international ship owners' organization BIMCO has issued a warning to be on the lookout for any underwater activities around any vessel, after authorities in Barbados last week discovered more than 300 pounds of marijuana in a box that was bolted to the hull of a small containership.
   The drugs were discovered attached to Caribbean Feeder Services' vessel the CFS Palamedes while it was docked at Bridgetown. Authorities had found a slightly smaller load of drugs bolted to the hull of the same vessel in June. The 712-twenty-foot-equivalent-unit-capacity vessel is deployed as an inter-island feeder carrier.
   BIMCO has sent out a notice to member carriers to warn crews about the tactic, urging crew members to be vigilant about activities around a vessel. The warning also said ship owners could consult with customs authorities to stay abreast of the latest measures used to keep vessels from being used for drug smuggling.
