U.S. CUSTOMS BOOSTS ANTI-DRUG ENFORCEMENT EFFORTS AT NOGALES

   U.S. Customs will increase its anti-drug enforcement capabilities at
Nogales, Ariz. by adding a new drug screening area.
   The DSA, to be completed by October, will resemble a large building
across two northbound lanes. The facility will be large enough to hold two commercial vehicles at a time.
   "Customs inspectors will use the DSA to perform narcotics exams on every northbound commercial vehicle as it waits to enter the U.S.," the agency said.
   Other significant changes at this Southwest border crossing include the
construction of an additional northbound lane for commercial traffic, the
placement of a $3.5-million cargo x-ray unit, and three "super booths" to
speed processing of trucks.
   Other government agencies working with Customs on its Nogales Cargo Redesign Project are the Arizona Department of Transportation and General Services Administration.
