Nansha, Ningbo growth drives COSCO Pacific July throughput up 20.8% Throughput at COSCO Pacific container terminals rose 20.8 percent in July, while throughput for the year has risen 22.4 percent.
   COSCO Pacific, the terminal-operating unit of state-run China Ocean Shipping Co., operates 20 terminals, with all but three in China. Its overall throughput from January through July has grown to 26.1 million TEUs.
   The fastest growing terminals continue to be Nansha, in the southern Chinese Port of Guangzhou, Ningbo and Dalian. Cargo volumes at those terminals grew 278.6 percent, 126 percent and 104.4 percent, respectively, over the volumes in the same month in 2007. For the year volumes at those three terminals are up 594.6 percent, 520.1 percent and 93.8 percent respectively. The Nansha terminal has handled 1.27 million TEUs so far this year, while Ningbo has handled 479,500 TEUs and Dalian 953,300 TEUs.
   COSCO Pacific’s biggest terminals, in terms of volume, are at Yantian, in the Port of Shenzhen, and Qingdao. Volume at the Yantian terminal grew 3.4 percent in July to 852,700 TEUs, while throughput from January through July has grown 2.6 percent to 5.1 million TEUs. Volume at the Qingdao terminal grew 5.8 percent in July to 732,000 TEUs, with year-to-date volume of 5 million TEUs, growth of 7 percent over the first seven months of 2007.
