Industrial redevelopment plan could lead to new Indiana port

Commercial Development Co. has acquired a 725-acre retired coal-fired power plant on the Ohio River, which the Ports of Indiana identified earlier this month as a favorable location for the development of the state’s fourth port.    Commercial Development Co.    The real estate developer and brownfield redevelopment company said it is working with the port authority to determine the viability of developing the Lawrenceburg site in the southeastern part of the state as a port that would benefit the manufacturing and agricultural sectors.
   The site has direct riverfront access to the Ohio River, connections to highway and rail, and is located within close proximity to major hub cities such as Cincinnati, Louisville, Columbus and Indianapolis.
   A CDC affiliate will now begin a series of remediation projects including soil and groundwater cleanup, asbestos removal and demolition of most existing structures.
