U.S. transportation employment jumps in November

The nation’s transportation and logistics sector added 10,500 jobs in November 2017, according to recent preliminary data from the U.S. Department of Labor.    United States transportation and logistics companies added another 10,500 jobs for the month in November 2017, according to the latest preliminary data from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).      
   Job gains in the sector during November were led by the truck transportation, warehousing and courier segments, which grew employment by 1,800, 8,100 and 2,200 jobs, respectively, from the previous month. Water transportation also saw a slight increase of 200 jobs added in November.      
   Those increases were offset slightly by a 400-job decline in the air and rail transportation sectors and a 2,600-job decline in the transit and ground passenger transportation sector. 
   November 2017 saw approximately 89,200 jobs in the transportation and warehousing industry compared to November 2016.
   Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 228,000 in November, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.1 percent, the BLS reported.
