Union Pacific’s James Young dies at 61

   James Young, chairman of Union Pacific, has died at 61 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
   Young, a lifelong resident of Omaha, Neb., was elected Union Pacific Corporation chairman in January 2007, and served as president and chief executive officer from 2005 to 2012.
   “Jim was an icon at Union Pacific and in the railroad industry, a colleague and great friend,” said Union Pacific President and Chief Executive Officer Jack Koraleski in a statement. “Jim’s vision and leadership took Union Pacific to unparalleled heights, and his civic contributions made positive impacts on many communities across Nebraska and the entire Union Pacific system. Most importantly, he was a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.”
   Young started his railroad career with Union Pacific in 1978 and served in various management positions.
   Union Pacific said its board of directors will elect a successor as chairman.
