Miami InternationalÆs Concourse A now closed for construction The modernization of Miami International Airport has reached another milestone along a multiyear journey, with Concourse A now closed to passenger traffic to make way for construction related to the North Terminal project.
   Terminal operations at the airport are configured around a horseshoe design, with the North Terminal making up one side of the horseshoe and the 'New South Terminal' the other side. Concourse A is at the end of the North Terminal and is the newest concourse at the airport.
   Under the original construction plans, Concourse A would have remained open throughout the North Terminal project, but Miami International officials said that rather than working around the concourse, it would be easier to shut it down and temporarily relocate the airlines that use that section of the airport.
   The shutdown will shave an estimated $200 million off the overall construction costs for the North Terminal project, which is scheduled for completion in 2011.
   American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, British Airways, LAN Argentina, LAN Chile, LAN Ecuador, and LAN Peru will use Concourse A when it is reopened.
