Lufthansa Cargo’s Asian flights all stopping in Kazakhstan    Lufthansa Cargo has switched its stopover point from Fairbanks, Alaska, to Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, for all freighter flights to and from Asia.
   Lufthansa Cargo had used Fairbanks for more than 16 years for flights to and from Japan. The airline has also ceased using Almaty in Kazakhstan as a stopover and plans to shift more flights to Astana at the beginning of July.
   Astana — with more than 40 takeoffs and landings per week — will become Lufthansa Cargo’s second-largest cargo airport after Frankfurt.
   “By flying to Astana, Lufthansa Cargo will be able to significantly reduce its flight times to Asia from now on. That will mean shorter transport times for our customers, particularly to Japan. At the same time, focusing on just one stopover point will simplify operations and improve the stability of our services to Asia,” said Stefan Lauer, Lufthansa Cargo’s chairman.
