TSA picks L-3 technology for in air cargo screening trial    The Transportation Security Administration, part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, has selected a subsidiary of L-3 Communications, a New York-based provider of surveillance and detection systems, to participate in a breakbulk air cargo screening pilot program.
   The subsidiary, L-3 Communications Security and Detection Systems, will use its eXaminer 3DX 6000 certified Explosives Detection Systems (EDS) in the program, which will gather data to determine if it is feasible for such systems to clear cargo flown commercially by using automated explosives detection technology now employed for screening checked passenger baggage.
   Breakbulk air cargo commonly consists of lightweight manufactured components, individual packages and small parcels.
   In the pilot program the L-3 eXaminer will be used at Miami International Airport, Chicago O'Hare International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, and Ted Stevens International Airport in Anchorage, Alaska.
