NWMTA announces security fee, general rate increases at member ports

NWMTA announces security fee, general rate increases at member ports The Northwest Marine Terminal Association, a voluntary association of 13 deepwater ports in Oregon and Washington, said its members will raise their security fee assessed to vessels from $250 per vessel per day to $295, effective Jan. 1.
   The NWMTA instituted the security fee on Jan. 1, 2006, to help offset member ports' operating costs to meet federal security requirements.
   The NWMTA has also announced that a general rate increase from the Consumer Price Index and/or 3 percent will be assessed to most member port tariffs, also effective Jan. 1. Some ports have elected to assess their increases on July 1, 2008, though the organization did not specify which members. The NWMTA suggests referring to the individual port tariffs located on the internet for additional information.
   The 68-year-old NWMTA's members include the ports of Anacortes, Astoria, Bellingham, Everett, Grays Harbor, Kalama, Longview, Olympia, Port Angeles, Portland, Seattle, Tacoma and Vancouver, USA.
