Canada makes first payment to IMO security program    The Canadian government has paid the first C$200,000 ($172,000) installment of its C$500,000 ($430,000) grant to the International Maritime Organization’s Global Technical Co-operation Program on Maritime Security.
   The second installment of C$300,000 ($258,000) will be made in June.
   Activities supported by the grant include regional seminars on maritime security for the Caribbean region and Central America; national maritime security train-the-trainer courses in the Arab States; and needs assessment and advisory missions in Asia.
   The IMO established the International Maritime Security Trust Fund in 2003. Contributors so far include the governments of Denmark, Egypt, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, the Republic of Korea, the Russian Federation, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the United States and a training institute (the United States-based Northeast Maritime Institute).
