Samskip acquires Scottish forwarder Saltire

Samskip acquires Scottish forwarder Saltire European multimodal container transport company Samskip has acquired Scottish freight forwarding and non-vessel-operating common carrier Saltire Integrated Shipping Ltd. for an undisclosed amount.
   Glasgow-based Saltire was established in 2004 by its joint owners Sandy Valentine and Peter Work. Both men will continue to run the company in Scotland with the company's existing team, and will report to Simon Dwyer, Samskip Ltd.'s United Kingdom managing director.
   'In just over two years, Samskip has become an established logistics operator in the Scottish market with our reefer logistics product and a multimodal network that extends across Europe, Scandinavia and the Baltics. It is a natural step for us to complement this development with a forwarding logistics product,' Dwyer said.
   The acquisition of Saltire follows the takeovers in 2005 of Dutch multimodal transport company Geest North Sea Line, British short-sea operator Seawheel and reefer centers from the Dutch company Kloosterboer.
