The Bush administration has proposed raising the level of the emergency relief fund available to states for road repairs after natural disasters or catastrophic events from $100 million to $250 million per year. The proposal is part of the multi-year surface transportation authorization bill that is still stuck in Congress nearly two years after the previous spending plan expired.
