The world’s largest package delivery company said the changes to its WorldShip, Quantum View and Billing Solutions offerings would streamline the preparation, management and tracking of multiple types of shipments — either domestic or international, small package or freight.
UPS is deploying a single global version of WorldShip for the first time, said Jordan Colletta, vice president of customer technology marketing, in a conference call with reporters. WorldShip is used by 550,000 customers to initiate a shipment, prepare shipping labels, create a bill of lading, and spell out whether the shipper or receiver is responsible for delivery charges and assorted taxes. WorldShip 9.0 is available in 14 languages.
Quantum View is tied to WorldShip and allows shippers to notify their customers of their shipment status.
UPS is now applying the shipping applications previously available to its small package customers to heavy-freight customers as well to provide a single point of contact with the company for any type of shipment. The move essentially marks the integration of the UPS Freight division, which was created with the 2005 acquisition of trucking company Overnite Corp, with the company’s small package services.
UPS said it is also upgrading its billing service to include an electronic freight invoice so that customers can use the data to better manage their transportation costs
