Coast Guard, UN conduct Latin America safety exercises The U.S. Coast Guard is conducting United Nations-related disaster response exercises through today that are geared toward responding to a potential catastrophe in Latin America.
   The UN Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs disaster management exercise involves representatives from several entities including U.S. Southern Command, U.S. Agency for International Development and DHL at Coast Guard Air Station Miami. An HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla., will provide static ramp training and a sling-load familiarization demonstration. The exercises started Wednesday.
   Coast Guard officials said the program is designed to leverage resources and logistical expertise to get critical supplies to an area affected by a natural disaster as quickly and efficiently as possible.
