Stolt-Nielsen to retire after 50 years at helm

   Pioneer parcel tanker executive Jacob Stolt-Nielsen will retire as chairman of Stolt-Nielsen on Dec. 15, the 50th anniversary of the company's founding.

   Stolt-Nielsen, 78, has been chairman of the company since 1959, and will remain a director. His son, Niels G. Stolt-Nielsen, has been chief executive officer of the company since 2000 and is also a director.
   Christer Olsson, a director of Stolt-Nielsen since 1993, has been nominated chairman. Olsson is vice chairman of Wallenius Lines.
   “I step down as chairman with sadness, but at the same time with an extraordinary sense of satisfaction and confidence,” said Stolt-Nielsen. “I anticipate this transition with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that SNSA is in good hands and in good order.”
   Stolt-Nielsen is credited with inventing the modern parcel tanker, built a leading offshore services company for the oil and gas industry, built Stolt-Nielsen into a major tanker container company, and was a pioneer in the aquaculture industry through Stolt Sea Farm.
