Ship-to-shore cranes arrive at Busan New Port

Ship-to-shore cranes arrive at Busan New Port    Pusan Newport Co. Ltd. Saturday received five more ship-to-shore cranes from Chinese crane manufacturer ZPMC for use at the new Busan New Port container terminal complex in Korea.
The cranes will be able to handle ships of more than 10,000 TEUs with 24 container across. A twin-lift system enables the simultaneous handling of two 20-foot-containers weighing up to 65 tons.
The cranes will be fully installed in three berths of Phase 1-1 by the end of this month, ready to go into operation from January.
Pusan Newport is a joint venture owned by DP World, Samsung Corp., the Hanjin group and Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. The company has operation rights of six berths at Phase 1-1 and three berths at Phase 1-2. The first three berths of Phase 1-1 opened in January and the remaining berths of Phase 1-1 will go into operation at the end of the year. A total of nine cranes will be installed at the newly established three berths of Phase 1-1.
On completion, the Busan New Port terminal will have a “conservative” estimated handling capacity of 5.5 million TEUs, featuring 3,200 meters (10,500 feet) of berth, 26 quay cranes, 81 yard gantries, 20 gate lanes and 10 rail tracks, with a storage yard occupying 125 hectares (309 acres).
