Lidl to expand U.S. presence on two fronts

The German grocer will open four more store locations as well as a fourth regional headquarters and distribution center, according to multiple news sources.    German discount grocer Lidl is planning to open a fourth regional headquarters and distribution center, as well as four more brick-and-mortar store locations, in the United States, according to multiple news sources.
The $100 million distribution center is to be built in Cartersville, Ga., just outside of Atlanta. The company established its first U.S. headquarters in Virginia last year, with additional DCs in North Carolina, Maryland and Georgia.
“We are excited to announce new growth and investment in our U.S. expansion” said Brendan Proctor, president and CEO of Lidl US. “Our Cartersville facility will help us efficiently deliver top quality goods to our future customers throughout the area. We look forward to being part of this community and thank Governor Nathan Deal, as well as local leaders, for their support throughout this process.”.
Since opening its first 10 stores in the U.S., Lidl will now open two stores in Virginia and two in North Carolina, bringing the number of store locations up to 14. The grocery company plans to extend that number to 100 within the year, according to multiple media reports.
